Is Online Gambling Legal in New York?

New York stands out as both an economic engine and popular tourist destination, creating more than 150,000 jobs and $7.5 billion in tax revenue annually due to gambling revenue alone. A recent study concluded that, by fully regulating and taxing its online gambling industry, New York could potentially generate up to 250,000 additional jobs as well as an extra $16 billion in taxes revenue annually.

New York may not boast as progressive gambling laws as New Jersey and other leading states, but they have made progress over recent years. After sports betting was approved, it seemed inevitable that online casino gaming would quickly follow. Yet New York has taken its time in moving this forward – potentially waiting until 2024 before unveiling their initial online casinos.

New York State Gaming Commission conducts audit and testing of games to ensure player safety, publishing a list of licensed businesses to inform players who is audited and regulated by them. Furthermore, regulators in New York also have an obligation to promote responsible gaming by providing resources and linking players with gambling problems with organizations that can assist.
